Oregon is the least expensive of the markets we write in most. It is also the one whose trend line is moving fastest, and the gap between those two facts is the whole story here.
The average Oregon premium runs near $1,705 a year, the lowest of the markets we write in most and well under the national average of roughly $2,490. That number reflects the market Oregon has had, not necessarily the one it is heading into.
2026 was the largest acreage burned in Oregon's recorded history. Taken together, Oregon and Washington burned more than two million acres this year, exceeding every other region of the country. Oregon homeowners have already been absorbing rate increases and a rise in policy cancellations, and enrollment in the state's FAIR Plan has been climbing — though nowhere near the scale seen in California.
The useful comparison is California five years ago. We work that market every day, and the pattern is recognizable: carriers reprice, then tighten appetite, then withdraw from specific geographies. Oregon is early in that sequence rather than late, which means documented mitigation and an accurate wildfire risk score are worth more here now than they will be worth once options narrow.
Market conditions as of September 2026.
Oregon operates a FAIR Plan, and enrollment has been growing as private carriers tighten in wildfire-exposed areas.
It remains far smaller than California's, which means the private market here is still the main event. If you are being pushed toward the FAIR Plan, it is worth testing the admitted market properly first — and if you do end up on it, understanding exactly which perils it leaves out.
Send us the declarations page you have now. Carriers move in and out of a state without telling the people already in it, so what was the best available policy two years ago often is not today.
Send your policyPersonal and commercial lines, shopped across the carriers appointed where you are. If you hold more than one of these, there is usually something to find in how they fit together.
Send us your declarations page and we will tell you what you actually have, what it would pay, and whether anything worth changing has changed in this market.
